We have our stallholders, and we are set to go for another Northside Makers Christmas Market on the 28th November, 2009 at Northcote Uniting Church on High Street.

Why is this market special? Unlike a few of the others around, we run not-for-profit with the aim to encourage as many new artists to bring their work into the retail environment. So whilst you might find some old favourites, we also have some jewelers, sewers and crafters that you have *never* seen before. This is our last market for the year, so come along and support us!

We have been going private, but dont want to spend the $4000 (which we might get a bit back from Medicare/our private health fund) for the next appointment (considering this woman arrives at work an hour late, and can have you waiting 2 hours for a simple appointment), and wont even be in Melbourne when the baby actually comes (we will be in country WA) so arent fussy about who I see.

So I....seem to have spent the better part (read: pretty much the entirety ) of today making an obscene amount of AVPM and M&MD icons (mostly the former, but some of the latter too - though I think I'm spoiler-free!). There's a LOT, folks. They're nothing super-fancy, mostly just textless crop-and-color-correct action, but naturally I want to ~share the love~ and so I bring them to you ♥HERE♥ at my icon journal! Character A gives Character B some DVDs and says they (A and B, not the DVDs) are made for each other, just like Han and Leia. Very nice. Except the story is set around 1976.

DVDs hadn't been invented yet.

Theatrical films were only just beginning to be released on video. There was a limited selection and they were expensive. Hard as it is to believe, there was a time when people did not own all of their favorite movies and watched them whenever they liked. They had to wait for them to be shown on TV. Horrible, I know. My parents still have nightmares about it.

Star Wars hadn't been released yet. Even if the story takes place a year later than I've guessed, only the first one had been released, it wasn't on video, and the Han/Leia relationship didn't exist yet. (I'm sure some people 'shipped Han/Leia from the beginning, but Character A was clearly trying to give examples of established couples, not his personal, not-yet-canon OTPs).

It's such a brief, minor scene, but it completely threw me out of the story. I don't expect authors to do in-depth research on the history of home video, but at least know what technologies were available and the release dates of any movies referenced.

Before I was just throwing around the idea of going back to school just cos I was kinna bored and unsatisfyed with my art and the fact that I was becoming "complacent", but I think I really am going to go back to school now. cambryn and her friend Matt took me to Gemini School of Art and man, it is perfect. We did a little portfolio review with the owners and just talked with them for a couple hours and it was really inspiring, I feel like if I did do the course there, all the missing pieces would be filled in, and I could get a job anywhere. Anyway, dunno how I could pay for it but I'm just excited, I hope I can figure out a way to get in.

Dear Fanfic Writers, Yes, Even You Otherwise Good Ones,

There are a few words that I regularly see used wrongly, mostly past tense words.

Examples I've see Lately:

Lied

This word is not past tense for resting on a horizontal surface. The correct past tense is "Lay".
It is past tense for telling something that is not the truth.


Drug

This is not past tense for "drag". The correct word for that is "dragged".
"Drug" is however the correct word of chemicals of medical and recreational purposes, used as a noun, and the correct verb for the usage of such chemicals in the present tense.

Glew

WTF? This is now not even a legitimate word! As such it is also not the past tense for "glow" - the correct word for that is "glowed".

Now I do not profess to being an expert of grammar, but I know enough to know these and suspect there are plenty of other mistakes of a similar nature that regularly happen.

I beg the fanfic world to try to remember these examples and heed any similar cases - or find a beta reader who understands them.
